Peak Season: Spring & Summer — Carpenter bees emerge in early spring (March–April). Wasp and hornet colonies grow through summer and are most aggressive in August–September when the colony is at peak size and food sources become scarce.

Stinging Insects We Handle

🐝

Carpenter Bees

Carpenter bees drill perfectly round holes in wood — decks, eaves, siding, trim, and wooden furniture. They don't eat the wood, but their tunneling causes real structural damage over time and attracts woodpeckers who make the damage far worse. Spring is peak season as females drill new galleries for nesting.

We treat active holes, apply residual in gallery areas, and seal entry points to prevent new drilling.

🪲

Yellow Jackets

Yellow jackets are aggressive — especially in late summer when colonies are large and food is scarce. They nest underground, in wall voids, and in structural cavities. Disturbing a yellow jacket nest accidentally is one of the most dangerous pest encounters you can have. Do not attempt DIY removal.

We treat nests with professional-grade dust and liquid insecticides, eliminating the colony safely.

🐝

Bald-Faced Hornets

Bald-faced hornets build the large, gray paper nests you see hanging from trees, eaves, and shrubs. They are extremely defensive of their nests and will attack aggressively when disturbed. Nests can contain hundreds of workers by late summer.

We treat and remove nests after elimination, which also prevents other pests from using the nest material.

🪲

Paper Wasps & European Hornets

Paper wasps build small open-comb nests under eaves, decks, and porch overhangs. European hornets are large and can chew through wood and bark. Both are defensive near their nests and will sting repeatedly. European hornets are also active at night, which surprises many homeowners.

We treat nests with residual insecticides and remove them once the colony is eliminated.

Why DIY Is Dangerous

Stinging insects are responsible for more deaths annually in the US than any other venomous animal — primarily from allergic reactions. Even people who have been stung before without serious reaction can develop severe anaphylaxis later in life.

Store-bought wasp spray is dangerous to apply to active nests, and nighttime application — while commonly suggested online — still puts you at significant risk. Let us handle it safely.

  • Professional-grade products eliminate colonies faster and completely
  • We have the protective equipment for safe treatment
  • We know the biology — when and how to treat each species
  • Partial treatment can make colonies more aggressive

Carpenter Bee Prevention

Carpenter bees return to the same areas year after year. Once they've established drilling sites, they'll keep coming back unless the area is treated and the holes are sealed. Spring is the most important time to act — before females drill new galleries.

We treat existing holes, apply residual insecticide to susceptible wood surfaces, and seal entry points with wood putty or caulk. Painting or staining bare wood also deters future drilling.

If you've had carpenter bee damage in the past, call us in early spring before they emerge.

Pro Tip

A photo of the nest and the insect helps us identify the species before we arrive. Nest location, size, and species all affect the treatment approach. Don't disturb the nest — just photograph it from a safe distance and we'll take it from there.
